5 ways to avoid getting sick at the office

This winter seems to have been particularly brutal when it comes to coughs, colds and the flu.

Because modern life prevents us from being able to hibernate in cozy caves all chilly season (if only), here are five tips to help keep you healthy this winter, even when everyone else at work has succumbed to the dreaded lurgy.

1. Eat your way healthy

Taking the time to make sure your immune system is firing on all cylinders is the best way to give yourself a fighting chance against coughs and colds.

A flu-fighting diet can help.

Plenty of leafy greens (smoothies are a great way to get these in) as well as garlic, mushrooms, yoghurt and ginger  will help fight sickness from the inside out.

2. Press snooze. Go on.

One of the key factors in a healthy immune system is getting enough sleep, so don’t feel bad about turning in early or taking a cheeky midday nap on your weekend.

3. Get a flu shot

Many workplaces offer free flu vaccinations to employees – which works in everyone’s favour. Get the jab and protect yourself.

4. Batten down the hatches

Keeping a pack of anti-bacterial wipes on hand to wipe down communal surfaces (phones and door handles are a killer) might make you look a bit obsessive for a while, but hey – you’ll be an illness-free obsessive.

5. Take the time to recover

If you do get sick, give yourself the required time to get better before heading back in to work.

Lots of sleep, vitamins and down time will have you feeling better, quicker – and will save the rest of the office from catching what you’ve got!

Go well.
