Who let the dogs out!

Who let the dogs out!

Sydney is full of parks and beaches, but not all are dog friendly.

If you’re thinking of taking your dog out for an adventure this weekend, here are some spots to explore and enjoy.

Western Sydney

  • Dan Mahoney Reserve

One of the largest dog parks in Sydney, Dan Mahoney Reserve in Parramatta features 3.3 hectares of off-lead and safely fenced grassland that’s proved popular with both dogs and owners.

  • Lieutenant Cantello Reserve

With dog agility exercise equipment, a secure fenced area, seating, sheltered area and bag dispenser, Hammondville’s Lieutenant Cantello Reserve has everything you need to enjoy a weekend trip with your furry friend.

North Sydney

  • Rowland Reserve

One of the most popular spots in the Northern Beaches for dogs and their owners to share time together, Bayview’s Rowland Reserve features an off-leash beach, grassy area and dog-friendly cafe.

  • St Ives Showground

An off-leash facility, St Ives Showground is fully fenced, has a children’s play area and a forest for dogs to enjoy. Saturday mornings also feature the Northern Suburbs Dog Training Club, with agility courses that welcome new members.

Inner West

  • Federal Park

Annandale’s Federal Park features water views and green parklands. At certain times, the sporting fields also become allocated off-leash areas.

  • Camperdown Memorial Rest Park

A popular and picturesque spot in the local community, Newtown’s Camperdown Memorial Rest Park features both leashed and off-leash areas.

  • Hawthorne Canal Reserve

This grassed reserve is close to Cafe Bones, which offers organic dog treats as well as food for their owners.

Eastern Suburbs

  • Hayden Place Reserve

Hayden Place Reserve, located within Botany’s Sir Joseph Banks Park and surrounded by native bushland, features a contemporary design as well as amenities for dogs.

  • Rose Bay Foreshore

Close to a number of other dog parks and occupying the southern end of Rose Bay, dogs are allowed off-leash across the entire beach and in the bay.

  • Centennial Parklands

The biggest dog friendly park in the Eastern Suburbs, 154 hectares of the open spaces in Centennial Parklands are off-leash.

The parklands not only boast amenities for both dogs and their owners, including a pet wash, but the Eastern Suburbs Dog Training Club also meets here weekly.

Southern Suburbs

  • Bonna Point Reserve

Bonna Point Reserve, on Kurnell’s Silver Beach, is a quiet, 24 hour off-leash spot where dogs can play both on the beach and in the water of Botany Bay.

  • Helena Street Dog Park

Helena Street Dog Park in Kirrawee is a fenced off-leash reserve with shaded areas and seating. The park is split in two, so larger breeds and smaller breeds can be separated if necessary.
