If you love the great outdoors but don't love to rough it, glamping is for you.

Glamping is camping with luxurious accommodation and facilities.

It’s about getting back to nature without getting back to basics; taking a break from the daily grind and feeling the earth under your feet without roughing it in a sleeping bag on the floor of a tent.

Glamping accommodation could be be a tipi, a geodesic dome, tree house, a resort tent or an Airstream caravan.

Comfort levels and prices can range widely, so shop around and choose carefully.

Here are some of our favourite examples of glamping holidays that offer a unique getaway to recharge the batteries.

1. Go wildly

The glampinghub.com is a whole website given over to unique outdoor accomodation across the globe.

One of their local listings is just outside Sydney.

Nestled in the Blue Mountains this tipi is in a luxury camping site and provides the ultimate privacy in a lush, woodland setting overlooking rainforest and the Bowens Creek gorge.

Set in 600 acres of bushland this venue gives a real sense of oneness with nature.

2. Green getaways

Love is in The Airstream is an iconic 1966 Airstream, which has had a complete retro 1960’s fit-out and comes with designer furniture, queen size bed and separate ensuite.

To add to the glamping experience your stay includes an outside fire, a big deck and landscaped gardens.

It's in the beautiful South West region of Victoria, near the Greater Otway National Park - a perfect base for touring the Otway Ranges, The Great Ocean Road or a romantic short break getaway.

3. Dome with a view

Advertising itself as the perfect getaway in the heart of the Margaret River, Mile End Glamping is a great location to relax, explore the local wineries and enjoy the wildlife and native bush from your own exclusive dome.

Perfect for 2 people, you’ll stay in a luxurious light-filled geodesic dome with a private bathroom, kitchen, king bed, bbq and a private spa.

4. Eco beach

Perched a stone's throw from the waves, the high end Ramada Eco Beach Resort is just over an hour’s drive (or a 10 minute flight) from Broome WA.

A sustainably focused resort in the pristine and untouched Kimberley region.

There are villas and safari-style tents with views of the Indian Ocean or the resort’s extensive bush gardens.

There's also a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, free yoga classes and tent make up service.

The villas and safari tents (which have ensuite bathrooms) are designed to be environmentally friendly and use renewable energy.

5. Tree house

For a completely unique accomodation experience, Wollemi’s Secret Tree house is hard to beat.

It's beyond rustic, yet luxury. A place where you can live with birds high in the forest treetops.

The Treehouse has stunning and expansive views across the Blue Mountains National Park.

This one of a kind property comes complete with spa, kitchenette, queen bed, fireplace and floor to ceiling windows, which can be left open for an indoor or outdoor experience depending on the weather.
