Are you a classic, vintage or veteran car enthusiast?
Then make your hobby part of your travel plans.
Classic and vintage car events take place across the country throughout the year and range from club meets - to rallies - to prestigious motoring events.
They provide great family entertainment and an opportunity to see some spectacular vehicles.
Here are some of Australia’s premier classic and vintage car events to visit.
Bay to Birdwood
Hosted in South Australia every September, The Bay to Birdwood is the largest, continually held historic motoring event for veteran, vintage and classic cars anywhere in the world.
Established as a major international event and one of the world’s great motoring gatherings, it comprises The Bay to Birdwood Classic - for cars manufactured between 1 January 1956 to 31 December 1979.
There’s also the The Bay to Birdwood Run - for cars manufactured up to 31 December 1959.
In early January each year, up to 1800 classic, vintage, and elite collectable cars from around Australia and the world descend on Exhibition Park in Canberra for the annual Street Machine Car Festival known as Summernats.
Running over three and a half days, Summernats is an extreme horse power party, delivering action packed events, exhibitions, awards and entertainment to a crowd of over 100,000 enthusiasts.
Australia’s largest indoor custom car motoring enthusiast event is MotorEx.
Billed as a hot rod and street machine show it boasts hundreds of Australia’s best custom and performance cars under one roof.
MotorEx also claims its strength is in its diversity, incorporating a wide spectrum of the car culture genre, including classic, timeless veteran and vintage collectables.
This mid-year event alternates between Melbourne and Sydney.
The enduring charm of VW’s classic Kombi is celebrated annually at the Old Bar Beach Festival’s Kombifest.
This community event attracts more than 30,000 people each year who descend on the mid-north NSW coast town of Old Bar on the Sunday of the October long weekend.
In a family friendly atmosphere, this festival is a place for Kombi owners to meet and share their passion (and their spare parts!) with other enthusiasts who've made the festival an annual pilgrimage.
McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic
South Australia’s McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic is a celebration of all things vintage and classic motoring.
Set in the relaxed atmosphere of McLaren Vale’s wineries and cellar doors, this award-winning event combines vintage and classic cars with, food wine, music and the arts.
